About Us
Royton Explorer Scouts actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. We work with young people aged thirteen and a half to eighteen, from across the borough of Oldham, but mainly Royton, Shaw and Chadderton. We believe through outdoor adventure we challenge young people so they not only develop physically but also learn and experience new things, develop a lifelong love of the outdoors, enrich their lives and have strong emotional and mental wellbeing - and have fun whilst doing so!

Royton Explorer Scouts was established in 2002 and has been running ever since. We meet, usually at our Scout hut in Royton, every Wednesday from 19:30 to 21:00. Our evening meetings complement our programme of weekend activities which include Hiking, Camping, Rock Climbing, Mountaineering, Water Activities and Expeditions. In an average year we have at least three weekend camps, a week camp and several weekend activity days. Camps can either be local or as far away as the hills and mountains of the Lake District or Snowdonia. Annual week camps in recent years have taken us as far afield as the Highlands of Scotland and Austria!

We think Explorer Scouts is an amazing experience that has many benefits for our young people. But don't just take our word for it, have a read of what our current and past members say about us.
